Vaughn Public Library
Originally opened in 1888, the Vaughn Public Library is Wisconsin’s oldest building still operating as a library. Immel Construction completed a renovation that preserved its historic character while modernizing the facility to continue serving as a welcoming place for learning, connection, and community.
Description
Improvements included foundation repairs and waterproofing, structural modifications, masonry and façade restoration, window replacement, and comprehensive upgrades to building systems, accessibility, and life safety. Historic features, including the grand stairway and prominent entrances, were restored or reintroduced, while an improved floor plan created stronger connections throughout the multistory building.
The revitalized library now offers updated collections and seating, children’s and teen spaces, study and meeting rooms, a demonstration kitchen, digital lab, fireplace lounge, and flexible community spaces. By thoughtfully integrating modern amenities within the historic architecture, the renovation honors the library’s 130-plus-year legacy while preparing it to serve future generations.
