The Golden House is celebrating the new year a little differently this year - with a brand new housing and services facility. The 34,500 square foot, two-story structure has allowed the organization the capacity to house twice as many families and offer additional services to members of the community.
In 2023 alone, Golden House served over 2,000 victims of domestic abuse through the organization's confidential services of Safety, Support, Housing, and Prevention Education. Housing provided by the shelter only accounts for one quarter of people served by Golden House, as most utilize Golden House's additional services. The Sunshine Café is housed at the center of the new Golden House facility, and its purpose is to provide warm meals to families at any time while most other community food banks are only open Monday through Friday with limited hours.
The facility provides upgraded technology throughout the building and parking lots along with three levels of security upon entrance, while the previous location only had one.
Each of the 20 family rooms has its own private bathroom and small kitchen appliances, which is an important part of healing for residents.
The organization's new Resource Room is open to all victims of domestic abuse, providing WIFI and computer usage to work on resumes, job searching, and more in a safe space.
